Aims and Scope
The North African Journal of Food and Nutrition Research (NAJFNR) ISSN : 2588-1582 is an international, peer-reviewed, open access, online journal.
The journal is committed to the rapid dissemination of high-quality research across all disciplines of human nutrition and food sciences. It seeks to publish innovative and rigorous papers—including original research, reviews, short communications, correspondence, case reports, hypotheses, expert opinions, and commentaries—that advance understanding in the field. NAJFNR welcomes studies addressing human, animal, cellular, and molecular nutrition, as well as food science.
The primary aim of NAJFNR is to advance professional knowledge for researchers and practitioners by addressing key issues in research and practice, including:
- Nutritional Science (NS): study of food, nutrients, and other food substances, the intake and biochemical processing of food substances, their relationship to health and disease, and the application of this information to policy and programs.
- Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT): evidence-based medical approach to treating certain chronic conditions through the use of an individually-tailored nutrition plan. This nutrition plan aims to benefit the patient's own health and reduce health-care costs.
- Public Health Nutrition (PHN): is the application of nutrition and physical activity to the promotion of good health, the primary prevention of diet-related illness of groups, communities, and populations (not individuals) through health services, program development, and policy advocacy.
- Food Science and Biotechnology (FSB): is the study of the physical, biological, and chemical makeup of food; the causes of food deterioration; and the concepts underlying food processing. Some disciplines can be included such as: chemistry, engineering, microbiology, and nutrition to the study of food to improve the safety, nutrition, wholesomeness and availability of food.
Additionally, the journal seeks to enhance public understanding of the relationships between nutrition, physical activity, and lifestyle in promoting health across the lifespan, and to explore how health policies can be strengthened through a greater emphasis on nutrition.
We invite submissions of observational and interventional studies, as well as fundamental scientific reports, on topics including food science, dietetics, metabolism, nutrients, clinical nutrition, social sciences, health economics related to nutrition, eating behaviors and disorders, and nutrition policy. Research on physical activity combined with nutrition education, as well as strategies to reduce food insecurity, is also encouraged.
NAJFNR also publishes proceedings from relevant conferences and features shorter contributions highlighting the distinctive nutritional heritage of the Mediterranean and North Africa. The journal serves as a forum for scholarly debate and knowledge exchange among students, professionals, and researchers, and aims to position nutrition as a development priority in Africa by fostering scientific collaboration.
Note: Manuscripts primarily focused on traditional medicine will not be considered.
Direct Rejection: Submitted manuscripts may be rejected without detailed comment following an initial editorial assessment if they are deemed unsuitable or of insufficient significance for publication in NAJFNR. Manuscripts that fall outside the journal’s aims and scope, do not meet standard English language conventions, or fail to adhere to formatting guidelines will not undergo peer review.
